I am extremely happy to be here to lay the foundation stone of Sewerage and Water Supply of 13 villages which were brought under the jurisdiction of Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh in the month of March 2019.

I can understand due to Covid Pandemic the pace of development works hampered to some extent but the intention to do the work remained intact amongst the officers of Chandigarh Administration. With the execution of these schemes, approximately a population of 1.30 Lacs would be benefited.

I am still in the midst of understanding the city geographically but I am told these villages are in the vicinity of Chandigarh. With the increase in Population of Chandigarh, the population here in these villages also increased manifold. The capacity of the infrastructure has, therefore, become inadequate.

In India, water is given the status of an incarnation of God, ?Varuna?, who is worshipped as the god of all forms of the water element. It's my sincere advice to you all that to meet the diminishing water resources and escalating water demand, water conservation is the need of an hour. In today?s context, the saying "water saved is water generated? is truer than ever before. We all need to learn how to use water judiciously. Integrated water resource management has now become absolutely necessary. Similarly, the existing institutions involved in providing the basic needs be restructured and strengthened. The 3 R strategy of reduce, recycle and reuse of the resources has to find place in our day to day lives.

The residents of these areas should not face any problem. The Municipal Corporation has undertaken various projects for the upkeep of these villages. The basic infrastructural facilities will also be upgraded and strengthened at a cost of Rs.102.21 crores. Existing conventional streetlights are also required to be replaced by LED lights and various dark spots need to be lightened on priority.

Besides this, renovation works of Dharmshalas, Sampark centres, Anganwadi Buildings, Health Centres, Cremation Ground, Panchayat Ghar and Community Centres will also be taken up in these villages at the cost of Rs. 204 Lacs for which tendering process has already been initiated. Various development works are likely to be completed in a stipulated time frame of one and a half year.

Thank you,
Jai Hind.
