SPEECH OF HON'BLE GOVERNOR OF PUNJAB AND ADMINISTRATOR, UT CHANDIGARH, SHRI BANWARILAL PUROHIT ON THE OCCASION OF CRICKET TOURNAMENT OF VISUALLY CHALLENGED AT CHANDIGARH ON 27.10.2021

I am happy to note that National Association for the blind (NAB), Chandigarh & Punjab branch is doing excellent work for the welfare, education and rehabilitation of visually challenged in this region. And now this tournament for the visually challenged will certainly lift their morale. It is also a matter of great pride that Indian Blind Cricket team has won in all the formats of International Championships in the T- 20 World Cup, ODI World Cup, Asia Cup, and many other bilateral series. It is, indeed, commendable.

Heartiest congratulations to the Indian Blind Cricket Team for these achievements and best wishes for their future sports activities.

Honorary President of NAB, Vinod Chadha has just mentioned that the Association is in the process of setting up an Institute for the blind and an Eye Care Centre in Block Majri, Distt. Mohali. This Institute will be a unique special school primarily for the visually challenged but will also admit normal disadvantaged children. The Eye Care centre could benefit thousands by timely intervention and save loss of their eyesight. This combined project of Health and Education for Persons with disabilities and economically weaker sections could be a game changer. I extend my full support to the association in this noble cause.

The Punjab Government, only a day back decided to conduct a survey of the visually challenged across the State and provide best treatment to those who have any chance of regaining their eye sight. Reviewing the enhancement of pensions of the visually impaired is also under consideration.

I once again congratulate you all for the extraordinary service rendered to the society. We are proud of the hard work done by the visually challenged and for their contributions made in forming an Inclusive society.

God bless us all.

Thank you,
Jai Hind.
