SPEECH OF HON'BLE GOVERNOR AND ADMINISTRATOR, UT CHANDIGARH, SHRI BANWARILAL PUROHIT ON THE OCCASION OF LAUNCHING OF ARCHIVAL DOCUMENTARY IN THE FORM OF CD CREATED BY THE SAPTA SINDU FORUM COMMEMORATING THE LIFE AND WORK OF SARDAAR K.S. NARULA AND SMT JAS

I am honoured to launch the Archival Documentary on the life and works of the great artist and Music Director Sardar Kesar Singh Narula. Unfortunately we have lost Sardar Narula in October last year which indeed was a blow to the Punjabi music fraternity. He will be known as a pioneer of Punjabi music for his immense contribution, not to just for the songs he recorded but for launching the careers of some of the biggest singers who became so popular over the years for this genre of music, and of course supporting the career of his beloved daughter.

When it comes to early Punjabi music in the 1950s onwards and the era of HMV records, then only one music director?s name stands out. Narula Saab was a devout Gurbani singer from his childhood. And I appreciate the contribution of his versatile, talented daughter, Jaspinder Narula who herself a great artist, for doing such a good job to keep the memory and legacy of her father alive.

We in India are the inheritors of a great historical experience in organising a multi-lingual, multi-ethnic, multi-religious, multi-caste and multi-regional society. India has always been considered a culturally rich country in the world because of its unity in diversity.

I also congratulate the Sapta Sindhu, the Center of Excellence in Culture & Heritage for creating this documentary, the First of a Series of Documentaries on the Musical Legends of Punjab. Sapta Sindhu has taken up the task of bringing to the fore names and works of such legends which may help revive the true Punjabi Music and Culture. It is a unique endeavour in the Arts & Cultural realm of India with a focus to Rejuvenate, Promote and sustain the Arts & Cultural Biotope and Ethos of the Nation.

Punjab, the Land of Five Rivers, is known for the Vibrant Culture and Jovial nature of its residents. Punjab & Punjabis are famous across the world for their rich culture, traditions, delicious food, and extravagant lifestyle.

I am sure I am going to enjoy my tenure as the Governor of a vibrant and ethnically rich state of Punjab. Punjabis are immensely proud of their religion, culture & tradition.

Thank you,
Jai Hind.
