SPEECH OF HON’BLE GOVERNOR PUNJAB AND ADMINISTRATOR, UT CHANDIGARH SHRI BANWARILAL PUROHIT ON THE OCCASION OF INAUGURATION OF COMMUNITY CENTRE, SECTOR 35, CHANDIGARH ON 06.09.2022 AT 4.00 PM

· It has been almost a year since I served as the Administrator of City Beautiful, which is a well planned and progressive city in every sense.

· Our Administration is working assiduously to make Chandigarh the best city to live in, a city which has something to offer to everyone, a city which will create new opportunities for the common person as well as preserve its unique heritage.

· Chandigarh is regarded as perfect example of a modern city that is well planned and is known to give a good quality of life to its residents. With 41% green cover, open spaces, green parks in every sector, the city has gained popularity at the international level and is among one of the most liveable cities in the world.

· The Chandigarh Administration has always given top priority to provide best facilities to the residents of the city .

· The construction of the Community Centres is one such step.

· I am glad that Engineering Department of UT Chandigarh has successfully constructed its 6th Community Centre.

· As we all know, the work of 5 Community Centers in Sector 20, 21, 30, 38 and at Maulijagran has already been completed with a total expenditure of Rs. 25 crore and they have been handed over to Municipal Corporation.

· There are another two community centers in the queue, for which construction is already in progress in Ramdarbar and Sector 45.

Friends,

· As evident from the name, Community Centres are all about providing a place to the Community to connect and socialize .

· They offer an opportunity for people to become involved in a wide range of activities.

· People residing in nearby areas can have social gatherings, recreational activities or hold various functions like weddings, birthday parties etc.

· In fact, the Community Centres promote a sense of belonging and social inclusion by providing a place for the members of the community to meet and engage in collective activities.

· Community Centre built at a cost of Rs. 4.50 crore, is really going to be a boon for the residents Sector 34, 35 and 36. It has two floors with facilities like Multi-purpose Hall with the capacity of 300 persons. A senior citizens room, a library, bride room and gymnasium etc.

· Residents who cannot afford marriage palaces in the outskirts of the city will have a very good and viable option in their own area now. Having a sound proof banquet hall is a very thoughtful idea. The loud music or DJ sound will not disturb others residing in the area.

· I would like to congratulate the entire team of Engineering Department of UT Chandigarh for doing the great work.

· Let me remind you all that the vision of Chandigarh Administration is to make and maintain the city beautiful inliveability, sustainability, equality andinnovation parameters alongwith providing the best urban experience to its residents.

  • I am of the firm opinion that public participation is a must in understanding the issues, recognizing the areas requiring improvement and evolving strategies for future planning .
  • I am happy that Chandigarh Administration always seeks and considers public opinion, suggestive measures from the citizens and tries to implement their ideas in best possible manner.
  • I truly appreciate the support system given to Administration by various Councillors,Resident Welfare Associations and NGO’s in one way or the other for its smooth and effective functioning.
  • I am also proud of the residents of the city who are involved in the development of their city and are always proactive in giving transparent feedback on the policies and initiatives of the Chandigarh Administration.
  • Chandigarh must shine as the city of the future with better prospects for those who seek to live in it.

Thank you,

Jai Hind.
