SOME POINTS FOR THE CONSIDERATION OF HON’BLE GOVERNOR PUNJAB AND ADMINISTRATOR, UT CHANDIGARH SHRI BANWARILAL PUROHIT ON THE OCCASION OF LIGHT AND SOUND SHOW ON SRI RAMANAYA AT BHAVANS SL PUBLIC SCHOOL AMRITSAR ON OCTOBER 30, 2022 AT 5.50 PM

Ramayana is the most popular epic. This Holy Book narrates the life, thought and general outlook of Bhagawan Ram.

He himself lived a life of maryada (ethical social conduct/discipline) to present a personal example for people to live like that.

This presentation is a beautiful way to promote values among youngsters.

Ramayana suggests how to deal with different situations with righteous approach in the best interest of the state and society.

For example Jatayu in Ramayana was a character who strove to protect a woman’s honour with fearlessness. The story of Ramayana has a message at its core that remains relevant today, in this case, that of respect for women.

Similarly, the concept of “Ram Rajya” was a vision that is relevant to this day.

It holds an important message for health sector today: “अल्पमृत्यु नहिं कवनिउ पीरा। सब सुंदर सब बिरुज सरीरा।।“, i.e. None dies prematurely, all are physically healthy and strong.

It holds a message for social harmony: “सब नर करहिं परस्पर प्रीती। चलहिं स्वधर्म निरत श्रुति नीती॥“, i.e. There is social harmony and an environment of mutual trust and love amongst all. All are fulfilling their dharma, their responsibility.

Of the conduct of citizens, it envisioned, “सब उदार सब पर उपकारी। बिप्र चरन सेवक नर नारी॥“, i.e. All are generous and giving. All men and women are in service of others.

Of social conduct, it said: “बयरु न कर काहू सन कोई। राम प्रताप विषमता खोई।।“, i.e. Under Ram’s grace, all disparities and differences melt down and none engage in enmity.

The Ramayana, thus, held the wisdom behind every aspect of an ideal society.

Friends,

The nature of Lord Rama epitomises unwavering truth & honesty and hence Lord Rama is considered the absolute.

That's why he has remained the source of inspiration for India for thousands of years. Lord Ram made social harmony as the keystone of his rule.

His wonderful personality, his heroism, generosity, integrity, patience, perspective, and philosophical vision will continue to inspire the several generations to come.

Rama had equal love for his people but he paid special attention towards the poor and the oppressed.

Therefore, Mother Sita used to say for Ram ji..

दीन दयाल बिरिदु संभारी’।

That is, Sri Rama is the support of the poor and the oppressed.

There is no such segment in anyone's life which is untouched by Lord Rama's inspiration. There is no corner of India which doesn't reflect Lord Rama.

Ram is in the Faith of India, Ram is in theIdeals of India, Ram is inIndia's Divinity, Ram resides in India's Philosophy!

Thousands of years ago, the Ram who was an inspiration to the ancient India as depicted in Valmiki's Ramayana, the Ram who was inspiring India through Tulsi, Kabir and Nanak in the Medieval era, the same Ram was present in the Bapu's bhajans during the fight for freedom in the form of non-violence and satyagraha .

Tulsi's Ram was with form (sagun) while Nanak & Kabir's Ram was formless (nirgun).

Ladies & Gentlemen,

Ramayana reflects the unity in diversity of India!

In Tamil, we have Kamb Ramayana while inTelugu we have Raghunath and Ranganath Ramayana.

We have Ruipad-Katerpadi Ramayan in Odiya , while there is Kumudendu Ramayana in Kannada. In Kashmir, you will find Ram Avatar Charit while Ramacharitam in Malayalam.

In Bangla, we have Krittibas Ramayana whileGuru Gobind Singh has himself written Gobind Ramayana.

You will find Ram in different forms, in the different Ramayanas, butRam is present everywhere, Ram is for all. That is why, Ram is the connecting link in India's 'unity in diversity' .

Lord Ram belongs to all and lives in all.
