Speech for Hon’ble Governor and UT Administrator, Shri Banwarilal Purohit on the occasion of Marathon Daily World Newspaper on November 6, 2022

· I congratulate the Daily World Newspaper, Chandigarh Administration & Chandigarh Municipal Corporation for successfully organizing thefourth edition of the Daily World Marathon.

· In the past, three successful international level marathons have been organized in 2017, 2018 and 2019 by Daily World in association with Chandigarh Administration and the Punjab Government.

· The fourth edition of the run is being organized to celebrate ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, Fit India movement and women empowerment.

· I wish that in future too the Daily World Marathon will contribute in the country's fitness movement.

  • Apart from creating awareness about running, the Daily World Marathon is also contributing in promoting tourism as the runners from different parts of India and the foreigners too are participating.
  • The Daily World marathon is considered as the biggest running event of the region – both on cash prize and participation fronts.
  • # Over 5000 runners and volunteers are participating in the run and it carries a total prize money of Rs 10 lakhs.

· The country’s elite athletes, the runners from foreign countries along with thousands of running enthusiasts from all walks of life are participating.

· Apart from the marathon (42.195 km), the runners participated in the half marathon and 10km timed run, in various age categories. In addition to the timed run, there is also a 5km fun run category.
